RESTORING YOUR HEALTH
We understand that everyone’s health goals are different and unique to the individual. Some may just be looking for a drug-free solution to their pain problems, others may want to take it a step further and prevent then from coming back, and still others may be interested in expressing as much of their God-given health and vitality as possible. For this third group, we created our one of a kind, 5 steps to optimal health and vitality.
5 Steps to Health & vitality
Restore Structural Integrity
The restoration of proper structural integrity is one of the single most important factors pertaining to your health.
Once movement patterns become compromised due to micro-traumas, inflammation, scar tissue/lesions or a myriad of other factors, the feedback loop between the brain and the body is interrupted. This interference is extremely worth noting because the brain relies on a continuous input of information signals from the body much like a computer relies on input from the keyboard in order to function.
Consequently, improper information signals to the brain, as what happens with spinal subluxations, muscular adhesions, sprain/strain injuries and loss of motion to cranial bones, just to name a few.
Change in informational feedback to the brain will cause improper output much like spelling errors would be deleterious to the proper functioning of a computer program. The effects of improper signals can be as diverse as hormone imbalances or digestive disturbances all the way to our mood patterns and how we think.
This premise has been the reason the chiropractic profession is the fastest growing alternative healthcare in the world.
When you understand how important proper movement patterns are to brain function, it is not hard to understand what a huge impact the chiropractic adjustment can have not only on your health but on your life.
Your wellness program will consist of a detailed assessment and correction of improper movement patterns and subluxations. Re-establishing structural integrity is the foundation to the neurological re-education of your body’s response to various stressors in your life.
That is to say, your road to health and vitality begins with a careful assessment, identification and correction of improper structural biomechanics.
This is the cornerstone of most physical medicines like physical therapy, osteopathy and chiropractic.
It has long been known as far back as 1921 when Henry Winsor MD, in his now infamous “Winsor Autopsy Studies”, discovered a near perfect correlation between distortions in spinal structure, known as subluxations, and diseased end-organs from the nerve innervation of those structures.
In his study, Dr. Winsor carefully examined any diseased organs, the nerves that supplied the organ, and the spinal bones that protected that nerve. He discovered that 221 structures, other than the spine, were diseased. Of these, 212 were observed to belong to the same sympathetic nerve segments (autonomic nerves) as the spinal subluxation. This is a 96% correlation. 96% of the nerves that supplied the diseased organ came from a damaged spinal level.
Dr. Winsor concluded that “irritation near the origin of the sympathetic nerve (autonomic nerve) will cause functional or organic changes in the organs supplied by the portion of the sympathetic nerve irritated.” Based on his research it was found that nearly 100% of all diseased organs may be a result of irritation to the nerve that supplies that organ. He further discovered that the irritation occurred where the spinal nerve exits from between the spinal bones.
This research changed what was known as the “chiropractic theory” into fact.
When the spine is in its proper position, it protects the nerve pathways. However, when a spinal vertebra becomes misaligned (subluxated), interference to the nerve impulse occurs, which reduces the overall function of the nervous system, muscular & sensory systems, and of any particular organ connected to that nerve. Restore your structural integrity by removing subluxations.
Daily exposure to harmful chemicals and pollutants is simply a fact of life. It is estimated that the average person will be exposed to a staggering 700,000 industrialized chemicals on a daily basis. 13,000 chemicals are used in cosmetics alone, of which only 10 percent have been evaluated for safety.
Additionally, ordinary household products like cleaning supplies, laundry detergents, soaps and shampoos can all be major sources of chemical exposure that add to your body’s overall toxic load. Statistical analysis show that the average person uses 25 personal care products on a daily basis and are contaminated with three to five hundred chemicals that that are linked to cancer, asthma, endocrine (hormone) disruption, ADD/ADHD, birth defects and infertility. Our bodies were never designed to eliminate this constant borage of toxic exposure in the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat. A lifetime of toxic build up overwhelm our body’s natural defenses, leaving us vulnerable to chronic disease. Detoxifying the body can no longer be thought of as fringe alternative option if we are to achieve a level of health that we were designed for.
For many people, the concept of detoxification is new, and can even be an intimidating thought. Rest assured, it doesn’t have to be. There are many detoxification options and we will help and guide you through the process to make it an enjoyable experience that fits into your lifestyle.
The cleansing process lifts the undue burden that has been placed on your immune system, allowing it to focus on its primary job of repair and regeneration. Many people see dramatic results often bordering on miraculous after a well designed cleanse. When the toxic burden has been lifted you look and feel younger, pain is often dramatically reduced, food taste more robust, and reports of improved flexibility and emotional wellbeing are also very common.
Nutrition Repair & Rejuvenation
Most people think of food as fuel for the body. Seldom do we really appreciate the wise words of Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, when he proclaimed nearly 2,500 years ago: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. It is only when we start to realize the direct link between food and the quality of health we express, that we begin to appreciate its importance in our lives.
For most of human history, food was thought of as medicine. Since the inception of “better living through chemistry”, the role of adequate nutrition for optimal expression of life has been downplayed. This is easily to see if we simply look at nutritional guidelines. Most people do not realize that nutritional guidelines are not based on the adequate nutrients needed to express life to its fullest, but rather on disease. Yes, you read that right. Today’s nutritional guidelines are the minimal requirements needed not to get a nutritional deficiency disease. They have absolutely nothing to do with the requirements for health and vitality.
As if that sobering fact was not enough, we must also consider the quality of our food supply. Unfortunately in today’s industrialized world, we have substituted quality for quantity. Patients for expedience and profit.
Studies published within the past 15 years show that much of our food supply is on a steady decline for quality and nutritional value. Intensive agriculture, fast-growth crops, soil depletion, increased use of pesticides, decline of biodiversity with the advent of GMOs, environmental pollutants and modern food processing techniques means the quality of our food is significantly lower than at any other point in human history.
In a UK report by McCance and Widdowson’s The Composition of Foods (LINK), during a 51-year period, potatoes appeared to have lost 47 per cent of their copper, 45 per cent of their iron and 35 per cent of their calcium while carrots showed even bigger declines. Broccoli suffered an 80% loss in copper and a 75% loss in calcium content. This pattern tends to repeat itself throughout the entire food chain. In fact, at the time of the report in 1991, in order to get the same copper intake from a tomato in 1940, you would need to have eaten 10.
The sad fact is that in today’s environment, it has become impossible to consume all the nutrients your body needs for health and vitality through diet alone. Doing so almost certainly guarantees you will develop a myriad of nutritional deficiencies. An integral part of your road to health and vitality will be to assess your unique nutritional needs based on your lifestyle, and to re-establish any long-term deficiencies that may be negatively impacting your health. Once your nutritional needs have been re-established, you will be amazed at not only how good you feel but also how good you will look.
It has been said that all disease starts in the gut. At first glance, this may seem like an overstatement, but once you realize your GI tract is more than just a funnel for digesting food, you begin to appreciate it vital importance to your health.
Did you know:
85-90% of Serotonin is made in the GI tract. Serotonin can affect blood pressure, mood and social behavior, appetite and digestion, sleep, memory and sexual desire and function.
20% of your thyroid hormone is activated by your GI. Thyroid hormones are linked to cholesterol levels, cardiovascular health, mood, energy and metabolism.
Proper GI function is needed for B12 absorption. B12 is required for normal blood formation, nerve function, and metabolism of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.
Probiotics found in your intestinal wall make vitamin K. Vitamin K plays a key in Brain health, blood clotting, insulin sensitivity, building strong bones, preventing heart disease and cancer, and for the proper function of Vitamin D (needed for immune function).
Considering the wide variety of human physiology the GI is involved in, it is not surprising that improper gut function can present in a wide variety of symptoms and diseases. GI dysfunction has been associated with IBS, colitis, nutritional deficiencies, fibromyalgia, arthritis, allergies and food sensitivities, headaches, eczema/psoriasis, auto-immune diseases, diabetes, asthma, elevated cholesterol, toxicity, and infection, just to name a few.
Most doctors and patients alike take GI integrity for granted and do not realize the extent gut function plays on our health. In today’s world, our GI is under constant attack due to toxic overload from antibiotics in our food supply, pharmaceutical drugs, synthetic processed food consumption, improper digestion, etc.
Repairing your gut wall and reestablishing proper healthy gut flora is essential to normal and healthy physiological function.
Once toxins and other irritants have been removed and your body’s nutritional needs have been reestablished, repair of your gut lining and the reintroduction of the necessary good bacteria becomes the next step in your wellness program. This can be one of the most dramatic steps in your journey. Most people have not experienced an optimally functioning GI tract in years, and once reestablished, become amazed at change in mood, digestion and the effects it has on health and vitality as a whole.
Release Mental/Emotional Conditioned Responses
Have you ever been nervous to speak in front of a crowd of people? What happens? Your heart races, breathing quickens, hands get cold, palms get sweat, digestion stops, cortisol is increased (leading to weight gain if exposed long term), muscles tighten, brain cant think clearly, reproduction stops, Blood gets shunted from organ function, like your stomach, to your muscles (this is why some people get nausea) to better aid in vigorous physical activity. All this to prepare you for “fight or flight”. A stress response has absolutely nothing to do with health and everything to do with survival.
Fear, anger, grief, worry. These can all trigger what is know as a “Stress Responses” (SR), a survival instinct design to prepare you to “fight or flight”. This state of high arousal is designed only for crisis management of short duration. It is designed to sacrifice normal bodily functions for increased energy output. When activated properly, it could mean the difference between life and death. So what would happen if your mind inappropriately triggered a stress response due to a misinterpretation of a stimuli, like financial stress or stress at work? When the stress response is repeatedly and consistently engaged, as is the case with modern lifestyles, it can have severe negative effects on our health as seen in the chart below.
According to John-Hopkins University, he typical person goes through more physical, chemical and emotional stress in 30 days than his grandparents did in a lifetime. This inappropriate physiological response has been linked to everything from arthritis, asthma, allergies, hogh blood pressure, skin conditions, ADD/ADHD, anxiety, obesity, fibromyalgia, lowered immunity, diabetes, chronic fatigue, poor concentration, slow healing, cancer and many more.
We have a subconscious mind called the “reactive mind” that records every past experience, emotion, sight, sound, touch and
taste for evaluation and comparison to real-time current situations. This is done to increase our probability to survive as well as decrease our chances of pain and suffering. Once our reactive mind finds a past experience that most resembles our current situation, it reproduces the original physiological response upon the conscious mind and body without the knowledge or consent of the individual. This reaction causes the individual to make irrational conclusions and act in destructive ways in an effort for survival and is the cause of psychosomatic illness.
We now have the knowledge and technology to release you of those inappropriate physiological responses to painful past experiences. Based on the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine, we can uncover subconscious patterns from the earliest moments of specific thought processes in your life, that may be physiologically influencing current events. Through a type of regression and repatterning, we can help remove the negative triggers that are driving your unhealthy choices and performance. The removal of these blocks permits the free flow of the various dynamics without harmful drugs or other artificial means allowing you to pursue life with enthusiasm and satisfaction. Therapy is based on physiology and not psychology, and therefore correction is both immediate and permanent. Once released, most patients express a feeling of lightness, relief or an aura of calm.
